Quigley, Linnea Biography

biography of Quigley, Linnea

Linnea Barbara Quigley
27 May 1958, Davenport, Iowa, USA
5' 2"
Linnea was born on May 27, 1958, in Davenport, Iowa. She later moved to California, where she was encouraged into modeling and acting by her friends. Linnea is considered one of the horror industry's most beloved "Scream Queens," and has appeared numerous times in Fangoria magazine. She also has a caring side that has led to doing work for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). She has done a lot of work to promote animal rights throughout her life. She is also one of the biggest female stars to ever cross the B-horror movie market.

Linnea Quigley was born in Davenport, Iowa, on May 27, 1958, to Dorothy and Heath Quigley. Her mother was a housewife and her father a chiropractor and psychiatrist. After moving with her family to Los Angeles in the late 1970s, the short, blond, petite-sized Linnea began getting work in B-movies, starting with small parts in such films as _Stone Cold Dead (1979)_ (qv) and _Wheeler (1975)_ (qv). She really garnered attention in _The Return of the Living Dead (1985)_ (qv), which has become a cult classic and helped make her the current "Queen of the Bs". Her reign was supreme in the late 1980s with such films as _Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama (1988)_ (qv), _Night of the Demons (1988)_ (qv) and _Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers (1988)_ (qv). Linnea married special effects wizard 'Steve Johnson (IV)' (qv) in 1990, but, unfortunately, the marriage lasted only a couple of years. In 2001, Linnea moved to Florida to be closer to her parents who settled there after her father retired from his career and because she wanted a change of scenery. She currently resides in south Florida with her collection of pets (she is a devoted animal rights supporter). Along with films, she still appears at conventions around the world. She has written two books about her life in the B-movie industry, "Bio & Chainsaw," in 1992 and "I'm Screaming as Fast as I Can" in 1995. After 25 years and more than 70 films, Linnea Quigley is still "Queen of the Bs".

-   'Steve Johnson (IV)' (qv) (17 January 1990 - 1992) (divorced)

-   Has contributed to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) campaigns. She is well-known for working on PETA's "Lettuce Ladies" campaign, where people educate others about vegetarian lifestyles while wearing only lettuce. She even had a poster made to promote this animal rights campaign.

-   Was once in a band called "The Skirts," an all-girl band.

-   Appears at horror conventions several times a year to meet her fans.

-   Long-time friends with fellow B-movie actresses 'Brinke Stevens' (qv) and 'Michelle Bauer' (qv), whom she has worked with for years.

-   Has been friends with frequent co-star 'Don Calfa' (qv) since they both appeared in _The Return of the Living Dead (1985)_ (qv). They reunited once again in 2003's _Corpses Are Forever (2003) (V)_ (qv).

-   Her first major foray into acting was a toothpaste commercial.

-   In the early 90s, she wanted to become a police officer with the LAPD. She passed the written test but decided to continue acting instead.

-   Starred in three horror films where something evil was unwittingly released upon a group of people: _The Return of the Living Dead (1985)_ (qv), _Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama (1988)_ (qv), and _Night of the Demons (1988)_ (qv).

-   Said her worst experience with special FX makeup was during _The Return of the Living Dead (1985)_ (qv), in which she had to endure several experimental makeup tests and wear a "featureless Barbie-doll prosthetic" over her crotch because a producer felt that full-frontal nudity was too shocking.

-   Interviewed in the book "Invasion of the B-Girls" by 'Jewel Shepard' (qv).

-   Ranked #9 on Maxim's "Hottest Women of Horror Movies" list.

-   Wears a size 4 1/2 shoe.

-   Attended Bettendorf High School in Bettendorf, Iowa.

-   Known as "Barb" to her friends growing up in Iowa.

-   Before she started her acting career, she worked at a Jack LaLanne Health Spa.

-   Music video: Appears in "Substitute" by 'Ramones' (qv).

-   TV commercial for Close-Up toothpaste.

-   Linnea Quigley. _Bio & Chainsaw Book._ 1990.

-   Linnea Quigley. _I'm Screaming as Fast as I Can._ 1998.

-   I never wanted a sugar-coated life.

-   You have more say on a low-budget film. You don't have a million people telling you what to do.

-   [on nudity in movies] As I've done more and more films, I find that they sometimes impose nudity in certain scenes where I really don't want to do it. There should be some kind of restraint on love scenes. I love to watch them when they're nicely shot, but don't necessarily show a lot. You can show just a little bit and still get the idea.

-   My favorites, selected from my own movies, are _Savage Streets (1984)_ (qv), _The Return of the Living Dead (1985)_ (qv) and _Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers (1988)_ (qv). One of the differences between my association with horror films and scream queens of past generations is that I don't faint as much.

-   Oh come on, men love naked women. It's a compliment; like women hate construction workers gawking at them, but when they stop -- that's bad.

-   (August 2003) She's re-formed her band, the Skirts, and will play the Monster Mania festival in Cherry Hill, N.J., and the Scream Fest in Plantation, Florida.

-   _Nightmare Sisters (1988)_ (qv) -> $400
