 ~ Worldwide Voting for The IDEA IIFA Awards 2009 popular categories have begun on mastilinks.com Mumbai, May 5, 2009: The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) today announced the winners of the technical awards categories for the IDEA IIFA Awards 2009. Jodhaa Akbar walked away with 5 awards followed by Gajini which won 3 out of a total of 14 awards announced today. The winners will be presented their trophies on the night of the IDEA IIFA Awards that will be held on June 13, 2009 at held at the CotaiArena at The Venetian® Macao.
Dominating the Technical Awards this year was Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodhaa Akbar, with A. R. Rahman adding to his winning streak this year taking the award for the Best Background Score. The film also won awards for technical excellence in Best Costume Design for Neeta Lulla, Best Editing for Ballu Saluja, Best Art Direction for Nitin Chandrakant Desai and Best Make Up for Madhav Kadam.
Following closely in the award wins is the Aamir Khan starrer – Ghajini, which won 3 awards for the Best Action – Peter Heins and Stun Siva, Best Sound Recording – Resul Pookutty and Amrit and Best Visual Special Effects – Prime Focus.
Bagging the awards for Best Cinematography – Jason West and for Best Song Recording – Purple Haze, Rock On !! clearly established itself as a cult movie of 2008.
This year, the Indian film industry favoured Farah Khan as she won the award for Best Choreography for the song ‘Desi Girl’ in Dostana while Leslie Fernandes gets the award for Best Sound Re-recording for the movie Race. Manu Rishi gets the Best Dialogue award for Oye Lucky Lucky Oye and the Best Screenplay award is being given to Neeraj Pandey for A Wednesday. The winners were chosen based on an industry voting for the IDEA IIFA Awards 2009 in March. Results of the industry voting were audited by PriceWaterhouse Coopers, the auditing firm for the IIFAs and the Oscars.
The nominations for the popular categories of IDEA IIFA Awards 2009 have gone online on www.mastilinks.com and will be open till the end of May 2009. Indian Cinema fans worldwide are expected to vote for who they deem to be the best of 2008. The votes from the online voting will be tallied by PWC and will only be announced on the night of the IDEA IIFA Awards 2009 at the CotaiArena, The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel.
