Dimager makes digital image management a pleasure. All the tools you need are at your fingertips in a single intuitive environment. The program handles all the complex, technical aspects of your workflow. Instead of wasting countless hours on using different tools and getting them to work together, you can focus all your energy on actually managing your images so that all your working time is productive time.

New IDimager 4.2 update

A new jacket for IDimager

With 4.2 we have improved the overall theme support for the application interface. As a result the application's main window now looks much cleaner and the colors of all the main elements are better balanced. Unfortunately it was impossible to do this while maintaining the old themes so we had to replace them with new themes which are better balanced than the old ones and better incorporated in the application.

Switching themes is still at the same location in the application. From the main menu, select View | Customize Toolbars. Then select the theme from the drop down list at the bottom of that dialog.

Transfer to PicasaWeb™

Providing a gateway from your image catalog to the outside world is something we are constantly focused on. IDimager already provided transfer features to online photo services like Flickr, ZenFolio, and SmugMug. Now with 4.2, IDimager also supports an upload feature to Google's PicasaWeb.

The PicasaWeb transfer feature is implemented in a similar way as the other photo services. In short you simply select the thumbnails that you'd like to transfer and then click the Transfer button in the application's main toolbar. There you select the option "Upload to Picasaweb" and follow the on screen instructions.

The transfer to PicasaWeb feature allows you to create new albums on-the-fly, including public or private albums. Evidently it is also possible to downsize your images during the transfer process without the need to prepare your images up front.

Downloader Profiles and One-Click downloading

The Downloader is one of IDimager's most attractive features, mainly because it simplifies the way you transfer your images from the camera to the computer as it allows you to start your image cataloging process from the very start of your workflow: the ingestion process.

New in 4.2 is that you're now able to store profiles for the Downloader which means that you'll be able to store pre-defined download settings as a single configuration and run the Downloader with the configuration of your preference. This will help you when you're using different camera models or when you use different download configurations for different purposes (like work photos and private photos).

In addition to the Download Profiles, we've taken this a step further and now also offer one-click downloading for downloading from memory cards. With one-click downloading you'll be able to launch a download profile without first invoking the Downloader itself. So with a single click you can run the applicable download profile by selecting it from the list. You can access the one-click download profiles in the new drop down list of the Download button in the main toolbar.

New GPS Panel

GEO tagging for images is getting more popular in the photography branch and even the camera vendors are now starting to incorporate GPS tagging in their cameras. That's a great evolution. To improve IDimager's GEO tagging capabilities, this new 4.2 version includes a completely rewritten GPS Panel that replaces the old Google Maps panel as well as the old GPS Data Entry scripts. This new GPS Panel will be all you need to GEO tag your images.

The new GPS Panel supports stored locations, drag & drop thumbnails, radius tagging, improved track log support, cataloging with GEO tags and radius, Google Earth integration, and much more.

You can open the GPS Panel by opening the Script Panel from the far left Explorer Bar and then load the script in that panel. Once it is loaded you can select your thumbnails and the panel will display your location markers or offer features to start assigning GPS locations to your images. The Help file and the renewed manual also contain a chapter with a quick-start for the new GPS Panel.

Support for the new IPTC Extension

The IPTC organization recently released their new IPTC Extension. From their website:

IPTC Extension is a supplemental standard to the IPTC Core. It provides new additional metadata and it refines some of the existing ones. It provides:

  • fields to provide additional information about the content of the image, e.g. name or locatation shown in the image, an organisation or event featured by the image, ... and more
  • fields to improve administration, like e.g. for a globally unique identifier
  • fields for cultural heritage photos, including a title, a creator, a creation date and information about the source
  • fields to precisely define the licensing and the copyrights of a photograph.

IDimager wouldn't be IDimager if we wouldn't be among the first in the market to include support for the new IPTC Extension and provide you with the latest developments in the metadata area.

Improved Quick Slideshows

Since a few versions IDimager offers the Quick Slideshow feature. In the new 4.2 release, the startup speed of the Quick Slideshows is very much improved so that even with large collection selected, the slide show will start very quick. In addition to the improved startup speed we also provide an improved fade effect. These changes make the quick slide show feature more friendly to use.
